ವನವಾಸದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಸೀತಾಮಾತೆ ತೀವ್ರ
ಬಾಯಾರಿಕೆಯಾದಾಗ
ಶ್ರೀರಾಮನು ಅಂಬನ್ನು (ಬಾಣ) ಭೂಮಿಗೆ
ಬಿಟ್ಟಾಗ ತೀರ್ಥ ಚಿಮ್ಮಿತು.
ಅದುವೇ ಅಂಬುತೀರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸಿದೆ. ಈ
ತೀರ್ಥವೇ ಶರಾವತಿ ನದಿಯ ಉಗಮ
ಸ್ಥಳವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ
ವರ್ಷವಿಡೀ ನೀರು ಬರುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಇದುವರೆಗೂ ಬತ್ತಿದ ಇತಿಹಾಸವಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ
ಸ್ಥಳವು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಕೇಂದ್ರದಿಂದ ೩೫೨
ಕಿ.ಮೀ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಿಂದ
೧೦೦ ಕಿ.ಮೀ ಮತ್ತು ತೀರ್ಥಹಳ್ಳಿ
ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕು ಕೇಂದ್ರದಿಂದ ೪೦
ಕಿ.ಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ತೀರ್ಥಹಳ್ಳಿಯಿಂದ
ಹೊಸನಗರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ
ಸ್ಥಳ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.

During their vanavaasa, once Sita was very thirsty. Shri Rama shot an arrow at this spot into the ground and helped quench her thirst. This place is called Ambu theertha. Ambu is the word for Arrow - theertha(in this context) is water.

This is also said to be the birth place of the mighty Sharavathy river.

The water at this place has been eternal - it has never dried up.

This place is enroute to hosa nagara from Theerthahalli.
